How Membership Benefits You

Representation

Membership in TNA - the organization that advocates for all of nursing practice – provides the strength of representation for all nurses.  From staying on top of evolving health policies to developing legislative initiatives that effect positive change, TNA is actively supporting nursing practice each and every day.  From state agencies to special committees, TNA works hard to influence, watch over and speak out for nursing when policy important to nurses is being developed.

Professional development

With membership comes invaluable opportunities for receiving the latest practice-relevant information, enhancing your practice competency, and growing as a professional through service on committees, task forces and special councils.

Leadership opportunities

No matter the membership option you choose – Tri-Level or TNA Direct – you can learn to lead more effectively through the experience of volunteering for leadership positions.  Whether state wide, national or District, there’s a key elected office, committee position or elected Board of Directors seat for members interested in building their professional expertise and skills.

Nursing connections

Professional membership is really about like-minded colleagues with a shared vision.  One community worth knowing about is the wide professional network of TNA.  There’re plenty of professional nurses to meet, mentor and learn from, and a variety of ways to participate.  That’s a big part of professional membership.

Access to career-advancing information

In any field, information is critical for success.  When navigating the workplace, access to the latest research, emerging industry trends, and news of the hot issues is a clear advantage.  Understanding their implications is survival in every day practice.  Membership in TNA offers you access to information so you can stay on top of what’s happening – and likely to happen – with nursing in Texas and across the nation.

  • Publications - TEXAS NURSING and TEXAS NURSING Voice are both quarterly, printed publications of TNA.  All TNA members receive them through the mail.  With a focus on relevant nursing issues of the day, much of the editorial is also available online.
Tri-Level ANA /TNA /District members also receive American Nurse Today
The American Nurse, and the Online Journal of Nursing.
  • Electronic news - TNA provides a series of e-mail blasts for members who prefer electronically delivered news of association activities and events.  Sign up today!
  • Texas Nurses ‘n Action Center – during a legislative session, members who want the latest information from the Capitol delivered via e-mail, can sign up for Action Alerts, Capitol Nursing News Briefs, and Priority Bills for Nursing.  Legislation moves fast and with news and action alerts, nurses can provide input – a nurse’s perspective – directly to their legislators on the health policy issues they value most.  Check out the Texas Nurses ‘n Action Center.

Explore information resources

Both TNA and ANA have full repositories of resources for practice.  From TNA, the online Marketplace has copies for sale of valuable publications and guides (all members receive member discounts; volume discounts also available).  From the always-in-demand versions of the Annotated Guide for RNs (or LVNs) to the Nursing Practice Act to the ever-popular Safe Staffing: A Nurse’s Guide to Advocacy, there’s valuable resources for any practicing nurse.

And if browsing a bookstore is for you, ANA’s online bookstore – nurses.org – could be just the thing.  There’s a generous selection of books and practice tools to investigate, plus members receive discounts off the full price of their purchases.

Jobs.  Jobs.  Jobs.

In the online TNA Career Center, TNA members can receive job alerts electronically, create anonymous profiles, post available positions, and take advantage of this membership benefit.
